We stress matrix communication. The city oftentimes says the public does not engage. The public oftentimes says our city leaders do not listen. A disconnect. How do you fix it? Let communication move in a matrix. Let everybody hear what everybody else says. The city too often uses a linear communication model instead of a matrix. It asks the public for its input but never lets the public see or hear what others said. The city needs to include the public in the discussion; not just gather information and control it all within city hall. The public wants to hear what their neighbors have to say instead of everybody giving one way only.

This blog tries to address that disconnect. It uses a matrix model. Everybody sees and hears what everybody else has to say. It even lets you talk with each other. Imagine that! Hopefully, it will let the public feel like it is heard better. And let city hall feel like the public is more engaged. If you shut down the open exchange, you shut down the communication. If you open the exchange, you open the communication. That’s better for everybody.

What type of communication do you prefer? Being part of it? Or just seeing what everybody else says?
