I respectfully ask the BLP board to consider including the following as it plans the process for interviewing finalists and selecting our next general manager.

I also encourage the Friends of Grand Haven to attend the August 12th / 13th BLP meeting where finalist candidates will be interviewed.

Process Steps

  1. Do an online survey of residential customers for their 10 top questions to ask GM finalists.  From those replies BLP can capture the best top 10 to use with the GM finalists.
  • Do an online survey of industrial customers for their 10 top questions to ask GM finalists.  From those replies BLP can capture the best top 10 to use with the GM finalists.
  • Have a townhall (candidate forum) like how our local league of women voters holds for mayor and city council candidates.  Give each finalist the 10 questions ahead of time so they have prepared answers.  Allow each GM finalist 20 mins to answer the top 10 residential customer questions.  Follow that with a 20 min open Q&A with the public.  Before (15 mins) and after the session (15 mins) let the GM finalists mingle with the public socially and informally (a meet & greet).
  • Have a work session with our local industrial leaders.  Give each GM finalist 20 mins to answer the top 10 industrial customer questions.  Include an open Q&A and a meet & greet.
  • Post on the BLP website the top 10 questions and answers from the townhall.  Also, post the townhall video on the website.  Also, include a summary of them in customer bill stuffers.

What do you think about this? Do you agree with this suggested process? Do you have ideas on how you think the selection process should be conducted? The BLP needs to hear from you so your voice is heard.
